Hiroshima(poem by Agyeya)

It is a poem written by a major Hindi poet ,novelist ,critic and journalist .Who writes under the pen name Agyeya . who's real name is S.H Vastyayan.

This  poem as the name suggest - is written after the grievous incident of  Hiroshima bombing by Allied forces of USA in an attempt to end the second world war , in August 6,1945.

The poet explains vividly and brings out a clear picture of what has happened to that fateful day. How the whole of city of Hiroshima .  which was beaming with life was reduced to barren , desolated and deserted land Within a split of second.

He begins with a very symbolic picture of a sun rising form the East as usual in that  fateful day and continues with a comparison of the sun with the bomb.Like the sun tearing open the horizon and greeting people , the bomb tore open the Earth and greeted the people with death .

People who were going about doing  their normal chores was awestruck and thrown here and there in all direction .The bomb hit directly at the center of the city and devastated the city .The giant cloud of smoke whirling after the blast engulfed everything on it's way .Like as if the death was driving in a dark colored car and spreading chaos and engulfing every trace of life on it's way.

The aftermath of the bomb was immense . It was as if the sun shone for sometime and annihilated everything within it's rays reach .

In the last lines the poet conveys a message that what ever the men themselves has created has landed themselves into dust .The misuse of the advancement in science and technology as a use of destructive weapon will never bring about a great and wonderful change to the world . Instead it will erase the very existence of  human beings.

He says that  landscape of Hiroshima would always be an epitome of men destruction power .

  6. The poet DOES NOT begin with a picture of a sunrise in the east. In fact, the poet says that NO, the Sun did not rise from the east. Get your facts right!
