THE ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE.( BY HENRI K  IBSEN)

The enemy of the people . It is  a story of a middle class doctor who gallantly put up to the resistance of all his town's people and his own brother .For the truth and facts of scientific research . 

Doctor stockman  is a very popular physician and well know figure of a small coastal town of Norway. He is also the medical officer of the bath - a spa or hot spring sort of a  thing which is said to have a great medical benefits .which is also the main source of income for the town's people. It was a project initiated by himself and his brother ,the mayor of the town .He is sure that the project will uplift the town's economy as many tourist would  flourish in for the treatment purpose . Both himself and all the town's people has invested a lot of money and attentions to it . So all are very much excited and anxious of the bath .

He discovers  that the source of the water for the bath is seriously contaminated by  tannery industries waste .which was dumped in millia-a small stream  situated nearby the source of water for bath. So he sends the letter from the institution to his brother Peter Stockman .With it he also sends a proposed plan which would come to the town at a considerable cost .

His brother finds the report from his side rather a small issue which is only pulled and made to seem big by his brother . He suggest his brother to ignore the report of contamination in the water source as 1/the cost of repairing would be very high and 2/ the people would come to know that the government has not researched well before coming up with a huge project. 

But doctor stockman refuses to give in to his brother's persuasion of ignoring the report .He bents on taking the matter in his own hands and so plans to give it to the famous newspaper of his town -the daily heralded . Every one from the newspaper - editor,Mr Hovstad . His assistant Mr Billing .The publisher ,Mr Alaskans ,think that the report is a serious issue and assures him their support.

To his surprise his brother with the news paper agency who ,a day back was so passionate about it, betrays him .They refuses to print the report . So doctor stockman plans to tell people of his town himself and calls all of them in Captain Horster house . All the people who are very much anxious of the bath ,finds the report absurd and objects his report . Unable to stand the ignorance of the people ,he shows his agitation to the people by shouting at them .

It ends by Mr Stockman planing to fight for his innocence, to the whole community who now abhors him and wants to hurt him  and his family members .
